This policy explains what personal information Pest Control Auckland collects, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have over it. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and its thirteen Information Privacy Principles.

Who we are

Pest Control Auckland is a mobile pest management business operating across the Auckland region, New Zealand. For any privacy question, contact us at contact@pestcontrolauckland.nz or 09 111 0000.

What we collect

We only collect information we actually need in order to quote for and carry out pest control work.

  • Contact details — your name, phone number, email address and the address of the property requiring treatment.
  • Enquiry details — what you have told us about the pest problem, including any photos you send us.
  • Property and treatment records — findings from inspections, products applied, placement locations, dates of service and recommendations made. For commercial clients this includes monitoring point data.
  • Household safety information you choose to give us — for example that there are pets, young children, a fish tank, or someone with a known allergy at the property. We ask for this so we can select and place treatments safely.
  • Payment information — invoicing details and payment records. We do not store full credit card numbers.
  • Website information — basic technical data such as pages visited, referring site, approximate location and device type, collected through analytics and call-tracking tools.

Why we collect it

  • To respond to your enquiry and provide a quote
  • To schedule, carry out and follow up pest control work safely and correctly
  • To keep records of products applied, which we are required to maintain
  • To invoice you and keep the financial records required by law
  • To respond to questions, warranty claims or complaints
  • To improve our website and understand which services people are looking for

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Marketing communications

If we send you service reminders or occasional updates, every message includes an unsubscribe option and we will act on it promptly. We send commercial electronic messages in accordance with the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007. Unsubscribing from marketing does not affect messages we need to send you about a job in progress.

Who we share information with

We share personal information only where it is necessary:

  • Our technicians and staff, so they can carry out the work
  • Service providers who operate our systems — scheduling and invoicing software, email providers, website hosting, call tracking and analytics. They may process data on our behalf but may not use it for their own purposes.
  • Property managers, landlords or body corporates, where they arranged and are paying for the work, or where you have asked us to report to them
  • Professional advisers, insurers or regulators, where we are legally required or permitted to disclose

Some of our service providers store data on servers outside New Zealand. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure comparable privacy protections apply, as required by Information Privacy Principle 12.

Cookies, analytics and call tracking

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to make the site work and to understand how it is used. We may use call-tracking, which displays a different phone number to different visitors so we can tell which marketing brought them to us; calls to those numbers connect to us normally and may be recorded for quality purposes, in which case you will be told at the start of the call.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the site may not work as well if you do.

How long we keep information

We keep treatment and service records for at least seven years, which reflects both tax record-keeping requirements and the practical need to refer back to what was applied at a property. Enquiries that do not result in work are generally deleted within 24 months. Where we no longer need information for any lawful purpose, we securely delete or de-identify it.

How we protect it

We use access controls, password protection and reputable service providers with their own security measures. Paper records are kept secure and disposed of confidentially. No system is completely secure, but if a privacy breach occurs that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as required by the Privacy Act 2020.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of anything inaccurate, and to have a statement of correction attached if we do not agree to change it
  • Ask us to delete information we no longer need
  • Withdraw consent to marketing at any time
  • Complain if you believe we have mishandled your information

To exercise any of these, email contact@pestcontrolauckland.nz. We will respond within 20 working days, as the Act requires. We may need to verify your identity first.

Children

Our services are directed at property owners, tenants and businesses. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

Complaints

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your personal information, contact us first at contact@pestcontrolauckland.nz so we can try to put it right — see also our complaints policy. If you remain unsatisfied, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, which can investigate independently and free of charge.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page, with the last-updated date shown above. Material changes affecting how we use information you have already given us will be notified directly where we reasonably can.
