Rats in the Roof? What That Night-Time Scratching Actually Means
Scratching overhead after dark is the most common pest call we get in Auckland. Here is how to tell rats from mice from possums, and what to do about it.

Auckland-wide · 7 days
Rats in the roof. Ants through the kitchen. A wasp nest by the back door. We identify what you actually have, treat it properly, and tell you exactly how it got in — so you are not booking us again next autumn.
Tell us what you have seen. We will come back with a firm price — usually the same day.
Mon–Fri 7am–6pm · Sat 8am–4pm · No call-out fee
Pest Control Auckland treats rats, mice, cockroaches, ants, fleas and wasps across the wider Auckland region — homes, rentals and commercial premises. Most residential treatments cost $150–$350 including GST; a full multi-pest home treatment runs $320–$580. There is no call-out fee, appointments are usually available within two to four working days, and every job begins with an inspection so the treatment matches the pest that is actually there. What we do differently
It is genuinely common for us to arrive at a property that has been treated two or three times already. The treatments were not necessarily wrong — but nobody went into the roof space, nobody looked under the house, and nobody wrote down the four gaps that were letting rodents straight back in.
So that is where we start. Every job includes an inspection of the roof space, subfloor and perimeter before anything is treated, and you get a written list of what needs sealing or repairing, in priority order. Sometimes that list is the actual answer and the treatment is the smaller half of the job. We would rather tell you that than sell you a repeat visit.
It also means we identify the species properly. A Gisborne cockroach that wandered in from the woodpile and a German cockroach breeding behind your dishwasher look like the same problem to most people and need completely different work. Argentine ants get worse if you spray them. Knowing which one you have in front of you is most of the job.

The process
What you have seen or heard, where in the property, and roughly when it started. You do not need to know what the pest is.
Roof space, subfloor, perimeter and the reported activity areas. We are looking for the source and the entry points, not just confirming the pest.
What we recommend, what it will cost and what it will and will not achieve. If a $60 repair would serve you better than a $300 treatment, we will say so.
Targeted treatment, a written record of products and placements, a proofing list, and a follow-up visit where the pest requires one.
Standards
All products are approved by the New Zealand EPA and applied within the controls set under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996.
Every visit produces a record of what was used, where it was placed and what needs attention. Essential for rentals and food premises, useful for everyone else.
Gel placements, bait stations and crack-and-crevice work in the places pests live, rather than spraying across surfaces your family uses.
Coverage
Auckland is a big, varied region and pest pressure changes markedly across it — bush gullies on the Shore, tidal margins in the west, new subdivisions in the south and east, apartment density in the centre. We have location pages for 30 areas covering what drives problems in each.
